From 10 feet away, this set looks pretty spiffy. When you've got mallet in hand, however, you'll feel all the corners cut in the manufacturing of this set. The mallet shafts have decorative grooves cut into them, but they're unfinished and splintery feeling. The shafts have little plastic widgets attached to the end that connects to the head. So, the weak point is the two little tiny screws that hold the breakable plastic widgets to the handles. When the plastic widgets do start to break, the mallet heads get very wobbly, further breaking the plastic widgets until they fall off.
A call to Eddie Bauer about the shoddy quality of the set led to an immediate response that it was a licensed product made by Sportcraft, and all quality complaints should go to them. Upon contacting Sportcraft, their unhelpful CSRs demanded a copy of the receipt for the set, which I've already lost, so they say that there is nothing they can do to help me.
