I've played the traditional board for 50 years, and since my new wife and I play an average of ten games a week, it was time for something fresh. Our games had become "speed Scrabble" and were usually finished in 25 minutes, with the winner's score ranging from 325-410 or so. The $50 this version cost is equal to what we spend at the local cineplex for two movie dates with junk food. We expect to have thousands of hours of pleasure with this item. The board's ball-bearing ride does suck, as many other reviewers noted. Our solution has been to put the new larger board right on top of our old board and its lazy-susan turntable. Works fine that way on our dining table, on top of a placemat. It's been fun learning where the big score squares are, and waiting to get two "Q's" or two "X's" or two "Z's" at the same time. Our scores now, winning or losing, are usually in the mid-600's. It takes us 70 minutes for a game, cutting our play to one game a night, which doesn't hurt a bit. For anyone who likes to play regularly, with fairly competent opponents, I recommend it. The pieces are mostly heavy duty card stock, which is important for a game like this where the actual playing board is made up by the games pieces. I have a 3 year old and it can be difficult to find games that aren't too difficult for her but still fun for the rest of us. My kids, ages 6 and 3, were totally excited to play this game as was I until we discovered that you spend more time putting the cubes into the frame than you do actually playing. It's a real pain to put all the little ice blocks in the frame and honestly the last row of blocks is too difficult for the kids. Then, all the kids do is take turns hammering out cubes until the bear falls. My kids seem of pretty average intelligence and this game provided almost no challenge to them or even learning as far as I could tell. They both knew exactly when the bear would fall and that's really only fun once or twice. I think we played it about four times in the past year. My problem with the set itself was that we couldn't figure out which side of the rubber mats to put on the floor to avoid slippage. The mats did slide as we threw the horseshoes at them and next time we'll probably attach them to the floor with tape.

My bigger problem was with Amazon who said the package would be shipped in a few days so I waited for three days to check the tracking, to see when it would be delivered to my house, so I could be there and it wouldn't be stolen if left on the front porch. To my dismay, it had already been delivered! I had to rush home unexpectedly and anxiously. I thought I had an almost perfect deck already before I bought this, but I ended up replacing half of them with cards from this structure deck. Then there are cards like the Pyramid Turtle which allow me to special summon any monster from my deck with 2000 DEF or less when it dies. This whole deck is just designed to destroy your opponent. It should be noted that no fusion, sychro, or ritual summons are included with this deck, but honestly you won't need them with all the other incredible cards.

I would suggest a few supplementary cards to replace a few in this deck however. There are a few monsters that wouldn't hold up and some trap/magic cards that really help this deck but are not included. The thinness of the stock sacrifices strength and longevity of the cards too much. The cards are so sticky that even shuffling is almost impossible. If you collect cards, these are fine, but for playing and magic, these are a disappointment. Our family has only played this once so far, but we laughed and laughed while we were playing it and as soon as we finished the first game, my children wanted to play another. My soon-to-be 8 year old daughter immediately made plans to include it at her slumber party and I already know it is going to be a big hit.

Although some of the categories are meant to be a bit provocative (ie," things you do with chocolate"), it is easy to skip those or simply play it at a "G" or "PG" level with your kids. So in my opinion, this is a great game for all age groups (as long as your kids can read and write).
